KOCHI: Kerala opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala on Monday said chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan should explain who is the 'top leader' in the party who is involved in the gold smuggling case.
Chennithala said the CM, who is in charge of the home portfolio, should clarify who in his party is involved in reverse hawala through the diplomatic channels.
He said the CM and the government should name this person who is said to have undertaken several foreign trips.
"This is a pointer to the involvement of the political leadership of CPM," he said.
According to media reports, Swapna Suresh and P Sarith, who are accused in the case, had in a statement submitted before the court had alleged that a high profile politician is involved in the case.
Referring to a report by a commission constituted by the CPM, which found that VA
Zakir Hussain, former secretary of Kalamassery area committee, amassed wealth disproportionate to his income, Chennithala said this shows the decadence of the party.
